Đurić: I urge the immediate release of Serbian national Alon Ohel
Minister Đurić stated that, according to the information available to Serbian authorities, Mr. Ohel’s health condition is critically deteriorating.
He called on those holding Mr. Ohel in captivity to release him without delay, so that he may receive the urgent medical attention he requires.
“Alon Ohel was taken captive as a civilian—his weapon was not a rifle, but a piano. He dedicated his life to the arts and to building a better world, one where mothers do not mourn the untimely loss of their children,” Đurić emphasized.
He described Ohel as a talented young man, caught completely innocently in the midst of a brutal conflict. “The outcome of this war will not be determined by whether Alon remains imprisoned under inhumane conditions or is returned to his family,” he added.
“There is no rational justification for sacrificing yet another young life for anyone’s political objectives,” said the Foreign Minister.
Minister Đurić further emphasized that Serbia, guided by humanitarian principles and within the scope of its capabilities, has extended humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. He expressed hope that the same spirit of humanity would prevail in securing Mr. Ohel’s release.
“I appeal to you—please, release Alon,” concluded Minister Đurić.
