The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met today in New York, on the margins of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos.

Minister Đurić emphasized that Serbia attaches particular importance to intensifying and deepening relations and cooperation with Cyprus, with which it is marking this year the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He underlined that Serbia wishes to continue, in the period ahead, with active political dialogue and exchange of visits. The ministers also exchanged views on current global issues of mutual importance.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its continuous support to Serbia in the process of European integration and voiced confidence that this support would be maintained in the future, particularly during Cyprus’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Minister Đurić stressed that Serbia highly values the consistent and principled support Cyprus provides for the preservation of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that the Republic of Serbia, in turn, extends its full and unwavering support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cyprus, in line with the principles of the UN Charter and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He also underlined Serbia’s interest in further enhancing economic cooperation, particularly in the field of trade, and encouraged the Cypriot business community to invest in Serbia.
