Political relations

Bilateral relations have slightly improved in recent years, especially in the field of economic cooperation and investments, and political dialogue, as well, has been revitalized.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs J. Baird visited Belgrade in 2014. This was, the first visit of the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs after 13 years.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Dačić visited Canada in 2016 (the first visit of a Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs after 14 years).

Economic relations

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the total trade exchange with Canada in 2025 amounted to €108.3 million, of which €62.1 million referred to exports from the Republic of Serbia and €46.2 million to imports.

There are about 50 active Canadian businesses entities transacting in the Republic of Serbia.

Bilateral agreements

  • A Convention between Canada and the Republic of Serbia for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital (signed on 27 April 2012; The Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, MU, No. 6/12);

  • Agreement on Social Security between Canada and the Republic of Serbia with an Administrative Understanding between the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development, the Canada Revenue Agency and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy for the Implementation of the Agreement on Social Security between Canada and the Republic of Serbia (signed on 12 April 2013; The Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, MU, No. 12/13);

  • Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Serbia for the Promotion and Protection of Investments (signed on 1 September 2014; The Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, MU, No. 8/15);

  • Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Republic of Serbia on Air Transport (signed on 21 May 2018; The Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, MU, No. 2/2013).
