Political relations
Political relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark are characterised by stability and constructive dialogue, with both sides committed to enhancing bilateral cooperation. Denmark’s recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence of the so-called “Kosovo” remains the only outstanding political issue.
The visit of Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, to Belgrade in 2023 represented an important step towards strengthening political dialogue, particularly in the context of European integration and regional stability. Further momentum was provided by the visit of Marie Bjerre, Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs, in 2024, during which Denmark reaffirmed its continued support for Serbia’s reform process.
The visit of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Denmark on 26 February 2026 provided additional impetus for the further development of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. The Danish Parliament (Folketing) hosted the visit, and the President of the National Assembly was also received in audience by King Frederik X of Denmark.
Economic relations
According to the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, total trade in goods with the Kingdom of Denmark in 2025 amounted to EUR 510.6 million, of which exports from the Serbia accounted for EUR 127.3 million, while imports amounted to EUR 383.3 million.
The biggest investments are the Carlsberg and Grundfos companies.
Bilateral agreements
A total of 23 international agreements are currently in force between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark. These include:
- Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments (15 May 2009; Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia – International Treaties, No. 105/09).
- Convention between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income and on Property (15 May 2009; Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia – International Treaties, No. 105/09).
- Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark on Facilitated Visa Issuance Procedures (13 March 2008; Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia – International Treaties, No. 19/09).
