Đurić: Gratitude to Italy for its steadfast support of Serbia’s European integration
Minister Đurić expressed satisfaction with the traditionally friendly and stable relations between Serbia and Italy, underpinned by a strategic partnership, a dynamic exchange of high- and top-level visits, and robust economic and commercial cooperation. He noted that over the past year, notable progress has been achieved in areas of mutual importance.
“Serbia remains strongly committed to continuing a fruitful political dialogue with friendly Italy, a country that plays a critically important role in both European and global affairs,” said Minister Đurić, reiterating Serbia’s sincere appreciation for Italy’s steadfast support for the country’s EU integration, particularly through its active involvement in the “Friends of the Western Balkans” group.
In that context, he reaffirmed that full membership in the European Union remains Serbia’s strategic goal. He underlined the firm determination of the Government of the Republic of Serbia to conduct the necessary political, economic, and legislative reforms by the end of next year, and to demonstrate through a serious and responsible approach that Serbia is deserving of an equal place at the European table.
Regarding the situation in Serbia’s southern province, Minister Đurić expressed deep concern over the laying of foundation stones for two new bridges over the Ibar River, describing it as yet another in a series of destabilizing and provocative moves by the provisional institutions of self-government in Priština.
“This action clearly demonstrates that the true intention of Kurti’s regime is not to allegedly facilitate freedom of movement, but rather to continue intimidating the Serbian population and to create an environment that will pressure more Serbs to leave Kosovo and Metohija,” Đurić emphasized.
In light of these complex and extremely challenging circumstances for the Serbian people, Minister Đurić underscored the vital importance of the KFOR Mission’s role as the guarantor of security in the province. He also conveyed special thanks for Italy’s continued contribution to peace and stability in Kosovo and Metohija through the active engagement of Italian troops within KFOR, as well as for the protection provided to the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Visoki Dečani near Peć.
