Đurić: Serbia is building the position of a country of stability and a reliable partner
Minister Đurić noted that on the first day he had meetings with the foreign ministers of Cyprus, Somalia, Italy, Azerbaijan, and several other countries, and also took part in numerous events organized on the margins of the UN session. He emphasized that meetings were also held with representatives of the energy sector.
“The common denominator of all these very diverse meetings is our effort to create an environment in which Serbia will have as many partners as possible, where the only distinction will be whether they are greater or lesser friends,” Minister Đurić underlined.
He added that Serbia wishes to cultivate friendly relations not only in its immediate neighborhood, but also more broadly, continuing the traditions of the Non-Aligned Movement, of which it was one of the founders.
Recalling that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter, the Minister stressed that Serbia strongly supports multilateralism and the rule of international law.
“Serbia fully advocates multilateralism – meaning the rule of international law. Not only because of Kosovo and Metohija, which will be among the important topics of all meetings, but also for the sake of preserving global stability and peace,” Đurić emphasized.
He further underlined that Serbia is recognized in the international community as a reliable and responsible partner, consistent in its positions, whether in economic, security, or political matters.
According to him, Serbia seeks to present itself as a country of stability, consistency, and future orientation:
“We are working to promote, everywhere and at every step, the image of Serbia as a country of stability, but also one committed to principles and turned toward the future,” the Serbian Foreign Minister stated.
Minister Đurić highlighted that the Serbian delegation consists of a team of experts who, together with the highest officials, are working to create the most favorable international environment in Serbia’s interest. He underlined that in the coming days the delegation would use every opportunity to strengthen Serbia’s position in the world and show that it stands firmly and resolutely behind the values it believes in and will defend them in a manner worthy of Serbia’s national interests.
He added that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, had already arrived in New York and would address the United Nations General Assembly tomorrow between 6 and 7 p.m.
