Đurić: Serbia has sent a clear message of support for peace

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, stated today in Vienna, where he is participating in the OSCE Ministerial Council, that Serbia’s message is unequivocal: we stand for peace in Europe.

Minister Đurić emphasized that Serbia strongly supports the work of the OSCE as an important instrument of peace, underscoring the importance of upholding the Helsinki Final Act and other documents that guarantee the territorial integrity and equal cooperation of states.

“It is better to preserve the OSCE, multilateralism, and the principle of territorial integrity today, than for future generations to have to build new organizations on the ruins of conflict,” the Serbian Foreign Minister said.

He placed particular emphasis on the position of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, noting that the Serbian people are being deprived of fundamental rights, including the right to vote. He added that Serbia expects the OSCE missions operating in its territory to support those most at risk - namely, the Serbs in its southern province.

Đurić stressed the importance of Serbia receiving a positive political signal, given the reforms it has undertaken, particularly in recent months in cooperation with the European Commission, so that Serbian society is treated equally within Europe.

Regarding regional relations, Đurić voiced strong criticism of the recent statements by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister of Defense, Zukan Helez, who, he said, uses hatred as a tool of political action - something detrimental to his own country. He underlined that he would propose legal action concerning the dissemination of disinformation and falsehoods about President Vučić, as such conduct undermines normalization, threatens regional stability, and represents an offense against reconciliation. He added that such rhetoric is deeply contrary to the interests of Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats alike.

Đurić reiterated that Serbia views no nation as an adversary but stressed the importance of speaking out clearly and publicly against harmful policies that jeopardize regional stability and the normalization of relations.

He also spoke about his visit to Washington, where the Serbian delegation held several significant meetings with U.S. representatives, including the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, noting that progress was made in the interest of the Serbian people, including the Republic of Srpska. Đurić emphasized the importance of Serbia’s continued presence on the international stage, especially in the fields of economics and infrastructure, to ensure that Serbia is treated equitably and protected from political or ideological pressures.

The Serbian Foreign Minister conveyed Serbia’s essential message: support for the OSCE as an instrument of peace, the preservation of territorial integrity, and the strong protection of the interests of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
