Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia

02. Feb 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia expresses serious concern over the new and increasingly frequent instances of the display of symbols and messages associated with ideologies from the period of the Second World War that resulted in mass suffering of the Serb, Roma, and Jewish peoples, as well as over anti-Serb graffiti that have recently been recorded in the Republic of Croatia, including in the city of Zagreb.

Public events and gatherings should not become platforms for the promotion of messages of hatred, historical revisionism, and intolerance, but rather opportunities to promote mutual respect and tolerance.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia believes that lasting stability and mutual trust in the region can be built exclusively through open and responsible dialogue, mutual respect, and a careful approach to the complex chapters of our shared history, and that the Republic of Croatia, as a member state of the European Union, should play a significant role in promoting these principles and in contributing to an atmosphere of understanding, tolerance, and the advancement of good-neighborly relations.
