Political relations

Bilateral relations between Serbia and the Holy See have been qualitatively improved in the last three years. President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić paid an official visit to the Vatican, on 12 September 2019. On that occasion, President Vučić had an audience with Pope Francis and a conversation with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Peter Parolin. The official visit of the previous Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić to the Holy See was realized in January 2018. The State Secretary Cardinal Pietro Parolin paid a two-day visit to the Republic of Serbia. Serbia, in June 2018 on the occasion of the opening of the new headquarters of the International Bishops' Conference of St. Cyril and Methodius in Novi Sad.
