Bilateral political consultations Egypt–Serbia between Assistant Ministers

Bilateral political consultations between the Republic of Serbia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, led by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Cooperation Ambassador Vladimir Marić and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Egypt Ihab Nasr, confirmed the commitment for continuation of strengthening political and economic relations, historical connections and strategic partnership between the two countries.

With an emphasis on great understanding for Serbia’s position and the matter of Kosovo and Metohija, joint commitment to observance of international law based on the principles of the United Nations Charter was also highlighted. Concrete possibilities in the field of economic cooperation were particularly discussed, primarily in the agricultural food sector, defence industry, energy, infrastructural investments, information technologies and further development of tourism after the establishment of direct Belgrade - Cairo flights.

In the year when the 115th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Cairo is commemorated, the importance of current plans for a reciprocal visit by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić was emphasised, after the historical visit of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in July 2022, as well as the expected signing of the Free Trade Agreement.

It was stated that many upcoming high-level meetings and talks in the field of defence, trade, internal affairs, religious dialogue and interregional cooperation would contribute to the further improvement of the cooperation. The Egyptian side particularly emphasised their interest in visits by economic delegations in the upcoming period and connecting of business communities of the two countries, as well as the complementarity of foreign policy views in international organisations as regards current issues of regional and  global importance.
