Selakovic and Slutsky: Traditional friendship and closeness between the two states

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selakovic started his visit to the Russian Federation by meeting with the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs of the Russian Federation's Federal Assembly Leonid Slutsky.

In the conversation they underlined the traditional friendship and partnership between the two states and peoples, as well as mutual readiness to deepen cooperation in all areas.

Minister Selakovic informed his collocutor about the political and security situation in Kosovo and Metohija. He expressed gratitude in particular for the firm and consistent support of the Russian Federation to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, as well as for the assistance that Russia provided in the United Nations and other international organizations to our position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija.

Slutsky informed the Serbian Foreign Minister that, regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, all parties in the Russian Duma had a single position - against the independence of the so-called Kosovo.

He also noted that the relations between Serbia and Russia were very good.

Minister Selakovic expressed satisfaction with the existing intensity and continuity of the meetings at the high and top levels and said that he expected that this positive trend would continue.

Selakovic underlined the importance of the strategic partnership between Serbia and Russia, as well as the fact that Russia was one of the most important economic and energy partners of Serbia.

Discussing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the Head of Serbian diplomacy stated that it was very successful with a high intensity of mutual meetings, which was evidenced by the number of sessions held by the Commission on Cooperation between the National Assembly of Serbia and the State Duma in the recent years, but also numerous contacts with representatives of the Federation Council.
