Holding of bilateral consultations between Serbia and Sweden in the area of security policy

Bilateral consultations in the area of security policy between Serbian and Swedish Ministries of Foreign Affairs were held today in Belgrade.

The delegations of the two MFAs discussed the actual situation in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the process of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina conducted under the auspices of EU. The key role of KFOR in maintaining stable and secure environment in Kosovo and Metohija was particularly emphasised. 

Mutual preference for further improvement of overall bilateral relations, including and intensifying political contacts through exchange of visits at all levels, especially in the context of the upcoming Sweden’s EU Presidency, was expressed. 

Also, in the consultations there was an exchange of opinions on partnership cooperation of Serbia with NATO, activities of Serbia within the EU Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as the current Sweden accession process to the Alliance. 

During the consultations current issues of global and European security as well as modern security challenges, were discussed. 

The Delegation of the Republic of Serbia was headed by Ambassador Dijana Ivančić, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Security Policy, while the Delegation of Kingdom of Sweden was headed by Ambassador Johan Frisell, Deputy-Director General and Head of the Department for European Security Policy at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Bilateral consultations of the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs in the area of security policy are a form of political dialogue which has been regularly implemented for many years. The next consultations are planned to take place in 2023 in Stockholm.
