Political consultations between Serbia and Russia

Regular political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation were held today.

At the meeting, chaired by State Secretary Nemanja Starović on the Serbian side and the Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandar Grushko on the Russian side, basic issues of developing bilateral relations and cooperation were discussed, with an emphasis on preparations for the upcoming visits at the highest level.

The issues of Kosovo and Metohija were discussed in detail, with confirmed Russian support for Belgrade's efforts to reach a lasting solution through dialogue with Pristina. On this occasion, the commitment of Russia to resolve the issue of Kosovo and Metohija with respect to the UNSC Resolution 1244 and the principles of international law was emphasized.

Within the exchange of opinions on the situation in the Balkan region, mutual interest in strengthening the neighborhood policy and stronger economic connections between the countries of the region was stated. The Russian side confirmed full support for Belgrade's policy of military neutrality, as a factor of stability in the Balkans.

On this occasion, the Russian side was informed about the process of European integration of the Republic of Serbia, and opinions were exchanged on the European perspective of the countries in the Balkan region.
